Les Enfants De La Manette
Lafayette, in the heart of the Acadian bayou country just west of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, revels in its French Acadian heritage and has celebrated it annually in a huge festival that takes over the city center every year. In addition to the fact that this is an attractive town in its own right, Lafayette also is the location of Acadian Village, an authentic recreation of life in Acadian Louisiana in the 19th century.
The week long Festival International de Louisiane is a major event in the region that features music, art and cuisine. Acadian cuisine is a separate art, combining French inspired technique with Louisiana produce. Artists appearing here are not only local but also include musicians and artists from among the French, African, Caribbean, and Hispanic influenced genres.
Celebrate culture with that stirring and exciting local favorite, Zyedeco, or the intense rhythms of Master Drummers of Burundi. Six stages set up around the center of Lafayette will reverberate to a weeklong celebration from the Tuesday April 26 opening to the Sunday May 1 finale.
